Callagheen Wind Farm Fund supports wide range of projects in North West Fermanagh

A wide range of local projects have received funding from the Callagheen Wind Farm Fund. The fund, administered by the Fermanagh Trust and supported by Scottish Power Renewables awards grants to community projects located within 7km of Callagheen wind farm, between Belleek and Garrison. Proposals for the fund are accepted from all aspects of community life with an emphasis on projects that have an environmental theme and/ or are linked to sustainable local activities.

Projects awarded grants include St Martin’s Primary School who will use their funding towards their ‘Secret Garden Project’ which will enhance the children’s awareness and appreciation of woodland and the seasons. Belleek Primary School’s grant went towards a new school piano. Their choir entertains the community at a range of events throughout the year often joining with other local schools in the area to sing in the village. 1st Belleek Brownies received resources for their ‘Getting active through fun games’ project. Similarly Garrision Community Group will use their funding towards their Summer 2015 Youth Activities Programme which will include fishing, football, surfing, canoeing, water trampoline, dance, art workshops and much more.

Cashel Community Association who provide social and educational activities for the local community received support towards renovation work at their centre. Little Smarties Pre-School Garrison will use theirs for resources and equipment to help deliver a range of projects. Cashel Senior Citizen’s Club received funding towards the hire of transport allowing their members to attend a wider range of activities and meetings while Garrison Women’s Group plan to use their grant towards a programme of promoting social inclusion for women of all ages. Funding was also provided to a number of other projects involving people from all ages and backgrounds.
