The Enniskillen Yacht Club Charitable Trust have awarded grants to 24 local organisations. At the presentation event in Fermanagh House cheques were given to groups including water-based clubs, sports clubs, youth clubs and community organisations. These groups will use the financial assistance to carry out a range of projects and activities.
When the closure of the former Enniskillen Yacht Club was being considered in 1987, the members felt that it would be fitting to commemorate the long history of the club, and its association with the town of Enniskillen and Lough Erne, by the formation of a Charitable Trust. The Trust’s primary objectives are to give financial support towards the work of schools and youth clubs as well as sailing and other approved water-base clubs. The Trust also supports the work of community and voluntary groups throughout the County.
This year a number of schools have been supported to provide their pupils with swimming lessons and activities. Organisations such as Fermanagh Scouts, Lisanskea Guides, IMPACT Youth Club Lisnaskea and Ballinamallard Scouts will use their grants to provide raft building, canoeing sessions and equipment.
Lough Erne Sailibility recently purchased specially designed sail boats for their disabled sailors. The Trust awarded the group funding for some equipment for participants and their carers so that their time on water may be enjoyable and safe whatever the weather. Sarcoidosis Support Group will use their grant to provide water based therapy activity for their members.
Local sports clubs Fermanagh Super Cup NI, Enniskillen Royal Boat Club, Portora Boat Club and Ballinamallard United Football Academy will use their grant to cover running costs and equipment costs. Finally Devenish Partnership and Home Start Lakeland were awarded funding to help improve health and wellbeing in their local area.
The fund, administered by the Fermanagh Trust, will open again for application next year. For more info visit https://enniskillenyachtclub.weebly.com/
