The Investing in Community Leadership Programme recently held a successful leadership training session. Aimed at staff and volunteers in the community and voluntary sector, the programme emphasised the importance of modern leadership in fostering collaboration, innovation, and social impact.
In today's dynamic landscape, leaders must inspire and create environments that enable individuals to thrive and contribute towards shared objectives. This understanding formed the cornerstone of the one-day bespoke Leadership Course tailored specifically for leaders in the voluntary and community sector.
Participants from a range of organisations in the Fermanagh and Omagh engaged in a comprehensive exploration of leadership concepts and practical applications. From understanding leadership traits to mastering the art of effective communication and establishing trust, the course equipped attendees with the tools and skills necessary to navigate the complexities of their roles.
"The Investing in Community Leadership Programme recognises the unique challenges faced by leaders in the voluntary and community sectors. This was a chance for participants to reflect on their personal leadership style and recognise the difference in leading volunteers rather than managing people in paid positions," said Sonya Johnston, Deputy Director of Fermanagh Trust. "Our goal is to empower these leaders with the knowledge, skills, and networks needed to drive positive change within their organisations and their communities."
Moreover, participants had the opportunity to engage in discussions, share experiences, and explore potential collaborations, fostering a supportive and enriching learning environment. "As leaders, we must empower those around us to navigate challenges and seize opportunities," remarked one of the participants. "This training has given me valuable insights and practical strategies to enhance my leadership approach."
The Investing in Community Leadership Programme, launched in January 2021, includes new and specific qualifications that support the next generation of leaders, to build their capacity to respond and react confidently to the challenges they face and give them the skills they need to make sure community voices are heard. Making an important contribution to the future of the VCSE sector in the West, the programme is managed by three organisations based in the West of Northern Ireland - Fermanagh Trust in partnership with Holywell Trust in Derry/Londonderry and Rural Community Network based in Cookstown. The programme is funded by the National Lottery Community Fund. For more info email leadership@fermanaghtrust.org
