The Oisín McGrath Foundation has formally launched a partnership with the FermanaghTrust, County Fermanagh’s community foundation. The Oisín McGrath Foundation was formed in memory of 13 year old Oisín McGrath from Belcoo, who lost his life tragically in February 2015.
The Foundation was inspired by Oisín’s life and formed both to keep his spirit alive and to inspire others through his memory. The three strands of the foundation are Organ Donation Awareness, Brain Injury Research and Awareness and Local Youth Sports Development.
Commenting during the formal launch of the partnership Secretary of the Fermanagh Trust, Kathleen Richey said “The Fermanagh Trust is honoured to be able to support the McGrath and Dolan families in managing and administering the Oisín McGrath Foundation. It is heartening to see the family wanting to channel their energies into something positive in the midst of something so devastating. Through the Fermanagh Trust the Foundation will be opening applications for bursary awards to financially assist young people and sporting groups who are running youth sport projects that meet the Foundation criteria.”
Oisín’s parents Sharon and Nigel commented “Oisín loved sport and really enjoyed life. The foundation in his memory will bring opportunity to others alongside celebrating his life. To date we have raised almost £50,000 through numerous events, some organised by the Foundation and many more by friends, family and the wider community. We never could have dreamed when we held the ‘Match for Oisín’ in May last year that things would have grown the way that they have.”
Sharon and Nigel continued “The generosity of spirit shown by the people of Fermanagh and surrounding counties never ceases to amaze us. We are pleased to now be working alongside the Fermanagh Trust and no doubt their experience, advice and guidance will help us in our endeavours.”
Representatives of sporting organisations, Churches and politicians from across Fermanagh attended the special launch event which was held at Fermanagh House.
