As we as a community come together by staying apart at this most difficult of times, it is clear that our courageous frontline healthcare workers need all the help we can give them.
Undoubtedly, all the workers have been hugely boosted by the support they have been given by the entire community in this time of crisis but this is an opportunity to help in real terms.
To this end we have set up a Gofund Me page 'Help Our Health Heroes' where you can donate funds that will be used primarily to help our healthcare workers and volunteers across the county.
The objective of the fund is to provide support to frontline health and social care staff and volunteers. With funds raised being utilised to purchase Personal Protection clothing and equipment, for the provision of staff care services and any objective which appears to the Trustees of Fermanagh Trust to advance the protection and wellbeing of health and social care staff and volunteers.
The fund will be open to organisations and agencies looking after the needs of doctors and nurses, health and social care staff and home care personnel including volunteers. Among the greatest in need currently are those providing community, home-based services to our elderly, ill and vulnerable, these include private and not for profit contracted services.
By addressing the shortage in Personal Protection Equipment this fund will hopefully provide the support that is needed at ground level to the all the workers throughout our healthcare system to defeat this virus and help them to stay safe.
Mark Conway, editor of The Impartial Reporter commented: "We have been taking a lot of calls and the least we can do as a society is make sure our healthcare workers are looked after as they go into battle for us and our families. I am also delighted to team up with Lauri McCusker and the entire Fermanagh Trust team for the delivery of this help. All funds raised will be handled and distributed by The Fermanagh Trust which has a proven track record over many years of supporting and helping this community with funding. These are exceptional times and I really believe this support is vital to not only help our healthcare workers and volunteers but to also say thank you for the job they are doing."
Director of Fermanagh Trust Lauri McCusker explained: ‘‘What can we do support those who give selfishly of their time and put themselves in the front line to take care of our loved ones, families, neighbours and wider community? We are so proud of the health and social care workers, working across our community looking after people in our hospital, residential settings and within people’s own homes. People are asking what we can do practically to support our front line workers. The ‘Help Our Health Heroes’ initiative, with the Fermanagh Trust working in partnership with Impartial Reporter is an important means for people to donate. All donations received will be welcome, with any donations received from taxpayers also qualifying for Gift Aid which will mean your donation will go that little bit further. For the last twenty five years the Fermanagh Trust has been supporting our community with funding and support through a whole range of funds. We are honoured to be able to support our Health Heroes at this time and we would encourage those able to make a donation to do so.’’
